Another week … another highly requested feature is launched.

After our latest successful upgrade last week, with the new Visual Link Explorer, here comes another feature. This new feature extends the overall functionality of the cognitiveSEO toolset by allowing tagging and tag filtering.

What is a TAG in cognitiveSEO?

TAG = “A label attached to something for identification or other information.”

We added color to make it easy to spot and differentiate among various tags.

7 Colors to choose from.

cognitiveSEO TAG = LABEL + COLOR

How should I use the TAGS?

Here are some of the use cases you could use “tagging” for:

LINK DISAVOWING

As you might already know, finding low quality links is done easily with cognitiveSEO. Until now, you could apply different filters to find those links, but you could not save them under one low quality flag. Now you can flag them using the new TAGS feature.

A quick step by step procedure would be:

Apply various low quality link filters and tag the resulted links. Next step is to export the tagged links, validate them and import them into the Google Disavow Tool.

LINK PROSPECTING

You can easily mark competitor prospects when you find them. Either in the Competitive Link Analysis or in the Individual Competitor Analysis you can apply tags individually, or in bulk. Assign different colors to each tag and you are ready to go.

LINK MANAGEMENT

Mark important links so that you can easily check them. You can flag links that might have a great importance to your site and check them from time to time to see that they are not lost.

CUSTOM REPORTING

You could create custom reports based on tags that you apply to links. A quick example would be a client that requires a report for the low quality links that were removed in a certain month. You could easily tag those, filter by that flag, export the PDF and send it to the client.

What actions can I apply to a TAG?

Here is a quick tutorial on the functionality of the TAGS.

ASSIGN TAGS

Tags can be assigned from any table with links. When you hover your mouse over a specific line you get a button saying “Apply Tag”. When you click it, an input box appears asking for the tag label. If you already applied the same tag ,the autocomplete feature will pop the tag up allowing you to re-apply it.

BULK ASSIGN/UN-ASSIGN TAGS

There are 2 modes that allow you to bulk assign tags. Select the links you are interested in tagging, and then apply one of the following actions:

Click the “Apply Bulk Tag” button , at the bottom of the page

or

Click the normal Apply button at the row level.

EDIT TAGS

Editing a tag is done from the “My Tags” section. Click the Edit Icon and you can change the label of the tag and it’s color.

DELETE TAGS

Deleting a tag is done from the “My Tags” section. Click the Edit Icon and then the select the Delete option.

Deleting a link will de-assign it from any links and delete it from the system. No links are deleted by this action.

FILTER BY TAGS

To filter by a specific tag, or set of tags, you need to click on the “My Tags” button, select the tags you want to filter by and then click the Apply button.

You can mix normal filters and tags when filtering.

FAVOURITE TAGS

If you often filter by a specific tag, you can mark it as Favourite and the system will create a shortcut for you. Clicking the shortcut will apply the tag as a filter.

EXPORT ASSIGNED TAGS

When you click the Export button you will also get a set of columns that show the assigned tags for each link.

That’s it with this update. Stay tuned for more!

We hope you like this new feature and find it useful. If you would like to recommend a new feature to be implemented please comment on this post.

Wishing you a successful “tagging session”
